Vegans and plant-based people are sought for a new and ambitious global vegan survey titled the “Huge Vegan Survey”

Huge Vegan Survey questionnaire
Los Angeles, April 9, 2026 — A new global vegan survey now open to participants is positioning itself as one of the most ambitious efforts to better understand the motivations and experiences of those embracing the vegan philosophy or choosing a plant-based lifestyle. Open to adults worldwide, the “Huge Vegan Survey” invites anyone identifying as vegan or plant-based to contribute to what could become one of the largest datasets in this growing field. The study is designed to be accessible, anonymous, free, and inclusive across borders.
Unlike many previous efforts, the survey emphasizes both depth and scale. It explores a wide range of topics related to veganism and plant-based living, while aiming to gather a large international sample. Participants can complete the comprehensive questionnaire in as little as 10 minutes using a computer or smartphone, making it accessible to a broad audience. The goal is not only participation but meaningful insight into a rapidly evolving global movement.

Addressing Gaps in Vegan Research

The study is led by UK-based vegan zoologist and author Jordi Casamitjana, who designed the project to overcome limitations found in earlier surveys. The Huge Vegan Survey focuses on improving methodological rigor and producing more reliable insights into vegan communities. This includes examining motivations, behavioral patterns, and long-term adherence to the vegan philosophy or the plant-based lifestyle.
The Huge Vegan Survey represents a significant step toward evidence-based understanding of why some people decide to adopt an identity centered on avoiding harm to others. By combining anonymity, accessibility, and innovative questioning, it offers participants a rare opportunity to contribute to research that could influence how veganism is studied and supported worldwide.
By focusing on previously overlooked aspects, such as how individuals transition and what sustains long-term commitment, this global vegan survey study aims to provide insights that could inform outreach strategies and support systems for vegans and plant-based people.

Privacy, Accessibility, and Global Reach

A defining feature of the survey is its strong emphasis on anonymity and independence. Unlike many organization-led questionnaires, this study, being led by an independent researcher, does not require registration or collect personal identifying information, including email addresses. This approach is intended to encourage honest participation and reduce barriers to entry.
The survey is open to anyone aged 18 or over who identifies as vegan, plant-based, or with similar labels, provided they can understand written English. Its global scope allows participants from any country to contribute, creating the potential for a diverse and representative dataset across cultures and backgrounds.
Participants are also encouraged to share the survey widely, extending its reach through personal networks and online communities. This collaborative approach is central to achieving the scale needed for meaningful analysis and conclusions. The “Huge Vegan Survey” has also produced a simple flyer with a QR code that people can print and leave in locations where vegans and plant-based people may frequent.
As the movement continues to grow, the need for reliable, comprehensive data becomes increasingly urgent. This global vegan survey positions itself as a response to that need, aiming to transform individual experiences into collective insight.

A Researcher with a History in Animal Advocacy

Jordi Casamitjana and his books
Jordi Casamitjana brings a multidisciplinary background to the project, combining scientific research with activism and public advocacy. Vegan since 2002, he has worked in animal behavior studies, undercover investigations, and animal welfare consulting. His experience spans both scientific and philosophical dimensions of veganism and animal protection.
He gained international recognition in 2020 for securing legal protection for ethical vegans against discrimination in Great Britain, a landmark case that drew global attention. In addition to his research, Casamitjana is also an author and public speaker, contributing to discussions on veganism and animal rights through multiple platforms — he is also one of the main writers of UNCHAINEDTV.
With this new survey, he aims to contribute another layer of impact — this time through data analysis. By gathering large-scale, anonymous insights, the project seeks to deepen understanding of vegan identity and behavior, potentially shaping future research and advocacy efforts.
Casamitjana explains the urgency of this global vegan survey study: “While the number of vegans and plant-based people is said to be growing around the world, there are still many crucial unanswered questions about the process of veganization that I think is time we study because they have been overlooked by previous surveys. If we managed to get enough people participating in this survey, we may be able to answer them.”
