MEDIA MENTIONS

The Eden Magazine teamed up with our very own Jane Velez-Mitchell to do a cover and magazine spread about Jane and her activism.  It was a perfect match because The Eden Magazine is dedicated to delivering a peaceful message that echoes respect for all living beings on this planet by living a plant-based and cruelty-free lifestyle.

From THE ARGONAUT:

“She has covered some of the biggest headline-making court cases in the country (including the 2005 Michael Jackson trial), anchored her own cable news show and is a New York Times bestselling author, but these days veteran journalist Jane Velez-Mitchell is giving a voice to those she calls the “ultimate voiceless” — animals.

“They can’t speak for themselves,” says Velez-Mitchell, 62, over a green juice at one of her favorite local spots, Café Gratitude in Venice.

After her eponymous show on cable news network HLN ended in 2014, Velez-Mitchell launched JaneUnchained.com, a social media-driven digital network focusing on animal rights and promoting a vegan lifestyle.”

STARBUCKS NOW OFFERS GLUTEN-FREE, VEGAN CUPCAKES IN FLORIDA!

Another day, another new vegan option debuting at a massively popular chain!
Southern Floridians who are looking to satisfy their sweet tooth while indulging in their daily dose of caffeine are in for a treat because Starbucks is offering a new, gluten-free vegan cupcake to select South Florida locations.
Perhaps this is due to the pressure the renowned T.V. and multi-media journalist, Jane Velez-Mitchell, put on Starbucks when she demanded the chain add more plant-based options to their menu; perhaps the world is just leaning toward plant-based fare regardless.
Starbucks partnered with Miami-based bakery, Bunnie Cakes, and has chosen to sell their locally made, gluten-free, and vegan passionfruit cupcakes in-store. Bunnie Cakes owner, Mariana Cortez, started making gluten-free and vegan treats after two of her children were born with celiac disease.

PLANT CHAT: JANE VELEZ-MITCHELL, PLANT-BASED ADVOCATE

It is such an honor having the talented Jane Velez-Mitchell on my Plant Chat today. Jane is a nationally known TV journalist, best-selling author, and winner of four Genesis Awards from the Humane Society of the United States.

Jane specializes in covering crimes against people, animals, and the environment. She is well-known for speaking up for the voiceless. For six years she hosted her own show on HLN, Jane Velez-Mitchell (formerly known as Issues with Jane Velez-Mitchell) replacing Glenn Beck, who moved to the Fox News Channel. She is often seen commenting on high-profile cases for CNN, TruTV, E!, and other national cable TV shows. I had the pleasure of working with Jane as she taped a LunchBreakLIVE show in my kitchen while I made Tortilla Soup.

…Although widely flouted, the state health code currently doesn’t allow pets in areas where food is being served. Animal advocates noted that California hasn’t had any problems since it began allowing canines in eateries.
“It was signed into law [there] and it has been a huge success,” said activist Jane Velez-Mitchell.
Velez-Mitchell said Europe and Israel allow dogs in restaurants.
“It’s happening all over the world — and New York is the center of the universe, so I think that we should do this here,” she said.

JANE VELEZ-MITCHEL:  GIVING VOICE TO THE VOICELESS

After a stellar career in traditional broadcast journalism, Jane Velez-Mitchell is wholeheartedly embracing new media — and she’s doing it in the service of what she calls “the social justice movement of the 21st century.”
That movement is animal rights, the focus of Velez-Mitchell’s new website, JaneUnchained, and her online subscription video series, Defining Moments.

The Wrap:  “Our original content tears down the 4th wall and offers an uncensored look at the grueling yet exhilarating nature of social activism,” former HLN anchor says.

Jane Velez-Mitchell, former longtime HLN anchor, is launching a new show on ConnectPal.com following her as she builds her new social media network, JaneUnchained.com.

The Dodo:

SeaWorld made waves again on Thursday at the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. The company’s float was besieged by animal advocates protesting its captive orca whale program.

As the float trundled down the streets of New York, bystanders from the animal welfare group PETA held up signs protesting the company. Four people, including 13-year-old Rose McCoy, even jumped the barricade.
McCoy said to television journalist Jane Velez-Mitchel after the incident, “It’s a shame that a great New York tradition such as the Macy’s Parade which is supposed to be a family-friendly event has a business like SeaWorld in it that tears families apart, tears orca babies away from their mothers.”

The Huffpost Green:

Last year, 13-year-old Rose McCoy made headlines around the world when she jumped the barrier at Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade to protest its SeaWorld float. You’d think the negative publicity alone would have given Macy’s pause. Instead, personifying the definition of insanity, Macy’s hosted a SeaWorld float again this year, perhaps thinking it would get a different result. It didn’t. PETA supporters, including young Rose, again scaled the barriers at Thursday’s parade and displayed posters proclaiming, “SeaWorld Hurts Orcas.”

“It’s a shame that a great New York tradition such as the Macy’s Parade, which is supposed to be a family-friendly event, has a business like SeaWorld in it that tears families apart. It tears orca babies away from their mothers,” Rose told Jane Velez-Mitchell, whose camera operator caught the protest on tape. “It’s anything but family-friendly, so it really should not be in this parade or anywhere, for that matter.”

The Santa Monica Mirror:

“SCIL has focused on the toughest aspect of the animal movement, getting laws passed. The organization has a great track record of getting lawmakers to listen and follow their conscience, no small achievement,” said Velez-Mitchell, the journalist who is the editor of JaneUnChained.com and a former Headline News Network anchorwoman. “California is the early adopter for the nation. So, by focusing on passing laws in California, SCIL supercharges advances for animals around the nation and the world.”

Krupa’s sentiments are echoed by former HLN anchor Jane Velez Mitchell, an animal rights activist and editor of Jane Unchained, who also attended the march last month:

“Lolita/Tokitae’s story is a crime story. Simply put, it’s an abduction and hostage story. This innocent, intelligent animal was with her mother when kidnappers, armed with explosives and high-speed boats, inflicted a reign of terror on her pod, ripping her from her mother. She is America’s longest-held hostage.”
