For millions of people, the day starts with coffee. Nina Bergman knows the feeling. In the Challenge the Host segment on New Day New Chef, she jokingly admits she’s a “kaffaholic.” But instead of reaching for another cup of coffee, she shares a surprising alternative that has become part of her morning routine: a warm Dandelion Mocha Morning Drink.

At first glance, the ingredient list sounds like something you’d find at a wellness retreat. Dandelion tea. Reishi mushrooms. MCT oil. Plant-based chocolate protein powder. Yet somehow, when everything comes together, the result is a rich, creamy drink that reminds Nina of a mocha coffeehouse beverage.

And the best part? There’s no coffee in it.

The Drink That Surprised Everyone

When Nina began mixing the ingredients together on New Day New Chef, host Jane Velez-Mitchell looked skeptical. Dandelion root? Mushroom powder? Alkaline water? It sounded more like a science experiment than a morning drink.

But then came the taste test.

Jane’s reaction was immediate. Instead of tasting like a wellness tonic, the drink tasted surprisingly rich and chocolatey. She compared it to hot chocolate, while featured guest Kazim Ali gave it an enthusiastic thumbs-up.

Why Dandelion Tea Has Become a Popular Coffee Alternative

People looking to reduce their caffeine intake often struggle to find a replacement that satisfies the ritual of drinking coffee. Dandelion tea has become a popular coffee alternative because of its naturally roasted flavor, which shares some of the earthy notes people enjoy in coffee.

Combined with creamy soy milk and chocolate protein powder, Nina’s recipe transforms dandelion tea into something familiar yet distinct.

If you’re trying to cut back on coffee, avoid caffeine later in the day, or simply experiment with something new, this drink delivers the comfort of a coffeehouse beverage without relying on a traditional cup of coffee.

Could This Be Your New Favorite Coffee Alternative?

What makes Nina’s recipe stand out is the combination of ingredients she personally enjoys as part of her wellness routine. The plant-based chocolate protein powder adds richness and protein. Reishi mushroom powder contributes earthy depth. MCT oil adds a touch of richness, while stevia provides sweetness without sugar.

The result is a drink that feels cozy enough for a slow morning and satisfying enough to become part of a daily ritual.

Nina shares this unique coffee alternative during the same episode that features acclaimed poet Kazim Ali and his traditional Persian rice dish, Baghaleh Polow. It’s one of the season’s most memorable episodes, blending food, culture, creativity, and a little bit of wellness inspiration along the way.

Warm, chocolatey, and completely coffee-free, Nina’s Dandelion Mocha Morning Drink is just one of the many creative plant-based recipes you’ll find throughout the new season of New Day New Chef on UNCHAINEDTV.
