STOP THE “SAVE OUR BACON ACT!

The Senate Has NOT Voted Yet.

Right now, hidden inside the federal Farm Bill, is legislation called the “Save Our Bacon Act” — a proposal designed to override voter-approved animal welfare laws like California’s Prop 12. After voters spoke. After the courts upheld it. After farmers have already adapted. Corporate factory farming interests want Congress to erase it anyway.

At stake are issues that impact all of us:
• states’ rights
• public health
• consumer choice
• humane standards
• and whether corporate lobbyists should have the power to undo the will of millions of voters.

Animals raised in extreme confinement are more vulnerable to disease, stress, contamination, and heavy antibiotic use. That affects everyone — meat eaters, vegans, families, consumers, independent farmers, and everyday Americans alike.

Your 3-Step Action Plan

  1. Call your senators. Tell them: “Please oppose any Farm Bill language that would overturn Prop 12 or weaken state animal welfare laws.”Campaigners are urging the public to call the Capitol Switchboard repeatedly at (202) 224-3121 and ask to speak to their Senators about this issue. They are also urged to call, using the same number, all of the Senators on the U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee who have enormous sway over how this will go.Sample script: But use your own words!

“Please oppose any Farm Bill language that would overturn Prop 12 or weaken state animal welfare laws. That means the Senator should vote NO on The Save Our Bacon Act, which would allow for torture devices like pig gestation crates to be used on an industrialized scale. This is shameful. This also hurts small farmers who have already stopped using these devices. It would most help Smithfield, a Chinese-owned company, the world’s largest pig producer. We shouldn’t be betraying voters to help a Chinese company. Prices aren’t going up because pigs can scratch themselves. They’re going up because of rising gas prices, general inflation, tariffs, and a host of other reasons. NO on The Save Our Bacon Act. Be on the right side of history.”

  2. EMAIL Senate Agriculture Committee members. Flood their inboxes.Make sure they know:
    • voters are watching
    • the public supports humane standards
    • Congress should not override state laws for corporate interests.
  3. Join the Tweet Storm (to be announced).Use these hashtags:#ProtectProp12
    #HandsOffProp12
    #StopSaveOurBaconActTag senators directly.
    Post throughout the day.
    Make this impossible to ignore.

The Senators Need to Hear From Us Now!

If Congress can quietly erase voter-approved laws through the Farm Bill today… what law gets erased tomorrow?

The public already spoke.

Now we make sure the Senate hears us too.

PLEASE SHARE AND POST.
PLEASE ACT TODAY.

The Senate vote could happen quickly — and once momentum builds, it becomes much harder to stop.

This moment matters. The animals that will be affected by this matter.
