140 Protesters Converge on McDonald’s!
#JaneUnChained #LIVE outside a McDonald’s in Alexandria, Virginia where more than 140 protesters are demanding better treatment for chickens! As more fast food restaurants improve animal welfare standards and offer vegan options, these critics say McDonald’s is falling way behind! This protest was organized by The Humane League, which also urges consumers to sign a petition letter to McDonald’s CEO Steve Easterbrook here: bit.ly/SignLetterToMcD
The Humane League’s letter says “Chickens raised for McDonald’s menu items are bred to grow so unnaturally large, so fast, that they often collapse under their own weight. Many live in constant physical pain, and they are vulnerable to crippling limb injuries and heart attacks. These intelligent birds spend their entire lives crammed in filthy sheds with tens of thousands of other birds. They suffer every day. It’s time for McDonald’s to step up and make a change… Chickens make up 88% of all animals slaughtered on factory farms every year. Since 350 million chickens raised are earmarked for McDonald’s, your company has the unique opportunity to lead a movement that will improve the lives of millions of animals every year. Until these changes are made, I will boycott all McDonald’s restaurants.”
McDonald’s is invited on any time to respond. Here is the company’s official statement: bit.ly/McdStatement
