Feed Your Soul at The Land of Kush!
No it’s not a marijuana (kush) dispensary! Today’s LunchBreakLIVE comes to you from The Land of Kush, in Baltimore, Maryland, named after ancient Nubian Kingdoms. This colorful restaurant offers the ultimate vegan experience with owners Greg Brown and Naijha Wright-Brown, co-creator of the Vegan Soulfest 2019, Black Vegetarian Society of Maryland, and Maryland Vegan Eats. Enjoy celebrating a new way of life with healthier food! Let’s eat!
Paige catches Naijha on a break. She and her husband opened this soul-filled restaurant 8 years ago and it has become a staple in the area. Naijha’s husband, Greg, is the founder and executive chef of The Land of Kush, and she handles the PR and marketing! Naijha not only runs an amazing vegan soul food restaurant, she also spoke at the Animal Rights Conference this year! Come by and try their mac and cheese, collard greens, blackeyed pea fritters, yams, kale salad, and their awarding-winning crabcakes on the weekend! Greg explains he’s from Baltimore and he’s been vegan for 20 years! There were not a whole lot of options back then and he decided to start a restaurant to share his love of vegan food and his lifestyle with everyone.
Baltimore and the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area has it going on with many vegan groups, support systems, and events! Greg explains that people can heal themselves by breaking tradition and eating more plant-based meals. He shares the inspirational story of his aunt visiting the restaurant once a week to eat and being taken off her cholesterol medication by her doctor as a result. He also points out that you spare the lives of so many animals and preserve our planet by eating this way. You can still have all the soul in your food without sacrificing the souls of others. Make sure to check out the Land of Kush next time you’re in the area to feed your body and your soul with plants!
