LIVE on #SaturdaySnackdown we are at the incredible #PalmGreensCafe with owner Greg Schmitz and Erin Riley-Carrasco, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals)’s Sexiest Vegan Over 50. If you’re ever in Palm Springs you have to come here! There are so many wonderful options and the portions are so generous.
Greg Schmitz, the owner of the café, explains that Palm Greens Café, is named after the most important food people should be eating, greens! Everything in this restaurant can be veganized. Even the potato salad is vegan bypassing mayonnaise for veganaise! The food looks oh so good too. Erin digs into the vegan biscuits and gravy, and she absolutely recommends this dish to everyone! This café uses plant-based alternative ingredients in most of their offerings to avoid the use of animal products in their dishes. Today Erin tries BLT Avocado Wrap, Tempeh Reuben, Biscuits and Gravy, Breakfast Sandwich with tofu scramble, Chao Cheese & tempeh bacon to name a only a few. What a vegan feast! Erin thoroughly enjoys every bite she takes, saying it tastes better than any food made with animal products.
Greg tells us his journey as a restauranteur. He has been in the industry for about 25 years. He practiced yoga in Northern California and learned from his teacher who was vegan, how she cooked with compassion. He started off with vegan taco truck during a time when their were very little vegan options or vegan businesses. Erin explains that plant products are packed with protein. She has never met a vegan who has a protein deficiency. Vegan is the way to go if you want to be healthy. You can avoid cholesterol and countless diseases by leaving animal products out of your diet. Next month is “Veganuary,” so please encourage pre-vegans to try going vegan for a month, and they can use their website for guidance. It may be the biggest favor you ever do for them. The Palm Greens Café is great find out in the middle of the desert. Check it out next time you’re in the Palm Springs area!
