Zafir was inspired to transition to a vegan lifestyle by Dr. Melanie Joy’s book, Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs, and Wear Cows. Zafir realized could no longer justify eating one animal and not the other, so she decided not to eat animals at all. Now, Zafir is an avid active animal rights activist. She has organized several Cubes of Truth with the group Anonymous for the Voiceless. She also regularly attends activism events with Direct Action Everywhere and The Save Movement. On top of all of this, she is a director and dancer at ZAZADance Art and Awareness. This is one busy woman! She explains her motivation is to raise awareness of the abuses animals experience at the hands of humanity.
Gip brings out some appetizing drunken noodles as she explains how Vegan Thyme came into existence. When Gip moved to the area, there weren’t very many vegan options. She decided since she wanted to open a vegan restaurant because she was in the process of transitioning to veganism. She introduced the idea to her aunt and they decided, “Why not?” Now, they have this wonderful vegan restaurant for all to enjoy!
