Turning up the Heat with Porkless Hatch Chile Stew!

Turning up the Heat with Porkless Hatch Chile Stew!

The boxes of hatch chiles are stacked up in front of the store. Get them before they’re gone!

Sandra Sellani co-author of the award-winning 40-Year-Old Vegan Cookbook makes Porkless Hatch Chile Stew. Sandra found her 10-pound box of Frieda’s Specialty Produce hatch chiles at Ralph’s market in Costa Mesa, CA. These chiles come roasted and blackened for you in the box! When you are ready to use them Sandra says you will want to peel off the skin. If you aren’t ready to use them, leave the skin on so they have a layer of protection. Sandra explains they can be frozen as well, which many people do and then use them at their leisure. Make sure to lay them in flattened layers if you freeze them. You can also pick mild or spicy peppers depending on your palette. The hatch chiles are only available in the month of August so make sure you find them before they’re gone so you can make your own Porkless Hatch Chile Stew today!

Sandra recommends Frieda’s Specialty produce brand for high-quality hatch chiles!
Sandra starts off the Hatch Chile Stew by sautéing the Gardein Porkless Bites. Once those are done she adds Pacific Organic Vegetable Broth to the pan of pork bites to deglaze the pan. Then she adds 10 peppers that she’s peeled the skin off and chopped prior to the show. Next, Sandra adds onions for sweetness and fire-roasted tomatoes for a “beautiful color and flavor” to the soup. Sandra adds chopped garlic for even more flavor. She adds chopped corn to add even more color and flavor. Coconut sugar adds a little extra subtle sweetness to the stew. Sandra uses a little garlic powder, pepper, and Annie’s Organic Vegan Worcestershire Sauce to finish the stew. Make sure to get a vegan Worcestershire sauce, because not all of them are. Sandra takes the stew and pours it over white rice. Then she sprinkles tortilla strips and fresh cilantro on top. She finishes the plate by adding a lime wedge. It’s so good Sandra wows herself! Try making this at home with the recipe below. Impress your pre-vegan friends and family.
The final stew looks like a dream come true!
