Legal fights to end discrimination against vegans have taken place all over the world with different degrees of success, and some are happening right now Los Angeles, October 16, 2023 — As the number of vegans grows, so does the number of vegans who say they are experiencing discrimination in their workplace, in their schools, in hospitals and institutions and even on public streets during protests.

VEGAN TEACHERS ALSO HAVE RIGHTS The advance of the Vegan Rights cause continues. A judge in the city of Bologna, Italy has ruled in favor of an Italian vegan teacher who took her local municipality to court for failing to provide her vegan options in her school’s canteen.

VEGAN DISCRIMINATION IS EVERYWHERE We, vegans, know that vegan discrimination may come from every corner. From the workplace which provides us uniforms to a hospital feeding us while convalescent, from an airline giving us complimentary treats to a school that orders us to dissect a frog, from a social club arranging a visit to the zoo to an employer enrolling us into a pension fund that invests in companies that engage in animal testing.
A ‘vegan rights movement’ may already be germinating and there is a good vegan, human and animal case for it.
Disregard for All Lives Even most carnists feel discomfort at the mention of a slaughterhouse. Slaughterhouses are some of the cruelest places on Earth… for animals. Now, make that for people too. Across the nation, slaughterhouses have become COVID-19 hotspots. According to the Washington Post, as of early September, at least 42,534 workers at slaughterhouses had come down with the coronavirus, and at least 203 had died.
Livestock Ship Capsizes, Thousands Dead A livestock ship capsizes and at least 40 sailors and 5,865 cows die in the high seas. The New Zealand ship capsized off the coast of Japan, transporting cows to China. The cows, trapped in the abusive system of modern day industrialized animal agriculture, would have also faced torture had they reached their destination.
