AMA Comes Out Against Serving Processed Meats in Hospitals!

Breaking News: The American Medical Association (AMA) just passed a resolution that calls on hospitals to serve plant-based meals and to eliminate bacon, sausage, hot dogs, ham, and all other processed meats! That is now official AMA policy! This is a huge victory for Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine which has been pushing for this much needed change! The World Health Organization has determined that processed meats are carcinogenic and red meats are likely carcinogenic. So, why serve them in hospitals… or anywhere?
There is also good news about the AMA’s position on food options for the SNAP program, which will help low income Americans adopt a healthier, plant-based diet. Jane Velez-Mitchell talks to PCRM President Dr Neal Barnard, author of the hot new bestseller

  • Since vegetables do not contains all essential nutrients, how can you then serve vegan made up industry food? Not even animals use carbohydrates for energy.

    • I believe you should review your science. You can get all necessary nutrition from plants. The only exception might be B12. A few supplemental B12’s now and then takes care of that. BTW, B12 does not come from animals, it is created by bacteria. The bacteria lives in the soil and in the guts of mammals. Back in the day we might not have sanitized our veggies so well and so would have gotten B12 from dirty veggies and roots…

  • Begging your pardon but plants are the fundamental source of ALL essential nutrients for ALL creatures great and small – where does the cow / sheep / pig get its essential nutrients? From eating meat?
A whole-foods, plant-based diet is absolutely complete in all essential amino acids (protein), antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.
The basic fuel element of our cells is Glucose. Glucose – chemical symbol C6H12O6 is made of of Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen. That is a CARBOHYDRATE. Without carbohydrates we die – quite simple really.
Life without carbohydrates is not just unthinkable, it’s impossible.
It’s unclear where you are getting your (mis)information from but it, and you, could not be more WRONG.

  • Please, Please, Please… Your webpage banner takes up 2/3rds of the page making it almost impossible to read your articles. Have your web page manager reduce the size of the banner that has “Home, The Team, Books By JVM, Press, and Sponsors” No reason for that to take up over half the screen.

  • This only makes complete sense hospitals shoul be a healthy food roll model, helping to prevent heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, obesity and other food related illnesses….. unhealthy food choices do keep hospitals and pharmaceuticals busier $$$

  • Thank you, thank you AMA. It is only an organisation of this esteem standing that will be listened to on this subject. We now see the repeat of the cigarette problem where it took decades before the public would listen to the voices in the wilderness. The evidence is there, we just need people to open their eyes.
